CINE?

Cinema at the Castle

A journey through the history and stories of cinema, from timeless masterpieces to arthouse films, to rediscover the Seventh Art in the evocative setting of the Castello Volante. Every Thursday, a new instalment featuring screenings, discussions and unexpected surprises.

The weekly Thursday events of CINE? – Cinema at the Castle continue, the film series conceived by Magma aps and organised in collaboration with Castello Volante in Corigliano d’Otranto. A century of cinema through the stories of its greatest figures, actors and filmmakers, tracing the timeline and cinematic trends from the 1920s to the 2020s.

March kicks off with a mystery to solve. The first event of the month in the film series is CINE? APERITIVO …a enigmi!, which will put your intuition to the test.
Imagine finding yourself in the heart of an imposing medieval castle, enveloped in the hushed atmosphere of a bar lit just dimly enough, whilst Sir Alfred Hitchcock’s thriller *Rope* comes to life on screen, filmed entirely within an elegant yet claustrophobic New York penthouse.
But there’s more: just like Professor Rupert Cadell in the film, you too will have not only a drink in your hand, but a riddle to solve. Will you be able to pick up on the right clues before the lights go down for the screening?

The event takes place on Thursday 6 March at 8 pm, on the terraces of the Castello al Nuvole Cocktail Bar. Between an aperitif (nachos, guacamole, drinks and the film – €10) and the first plot twist, it’ll be up to you to put your deductive skills and your sixth sense to the test. The screening will begin at 8.45 pm (film only – €2).
Are you ready to play with murder?

The programme for Thursdays in March will then continue with Billy Wilder’s decadent noir masterpiece (*Sunset Boulevard*), taking a leap into the relative truths of the East in Kurosawa’s (Rashomon), before reaching the Italian neorealist revolution – the first true watershed moment on this journey – with the work of the De Sica/Zavattini duo (Umberto D.).

The programme will continue until June with Italian classics and comedies, European arthouse cinema and Asian avant-garde films, right up to contemporary cinema, in order to analyse the historical, spatial and temporal evolution of the Seventh Art over the course of a century, with the shared aim of developing a personal artistic consciousness and one’s own idea of cinema.
