Food Sound Castle

Daniele De Mickele, aka DONPASTA, featuring Faugnu, at the Castello Volante in Corigliano d'Otranto

A battle of names to celebrate a thirty-year career: on Wednesday 2 August (free entry), the Castello Volante in Corigliano d’Otranto will host Food Sound Castle.

The three personas of director, economist and writer Daniele De Michele – the militant ‘gastrophilosopher’ Donpasta and DJ Faugnu – will come together for the first time. An evening of stories, music, films and recipes with “one of the most inventive food activists”, as the New York Times described him years ago.

The event kicks off at 8 pm on the Terrazza di Nuvole, the castle’s bistro, with Donpasta’s cooking DJ set. A performance in which you can lose yourself in the emotion of food – its scents and colours, its shapes and flavours. The DJ set is spiced with sounds from across the globe, ranging from funk and reggae to South American rhythms and London’s multicultural scene.

From 9 pm, there will be a screening of the documentary *I Villani* (2018) by Daniele De Michele, an original work that explores the lives, sacrifices and rewards of those who have chosen to produce healthy, wholesome food.

From 10.30 pm, the evening will continue in the foyer with Faugnu (accompanied by VJ Giacomo Imbriani) and the new show ‘La storia del Novecento in Vinile’, in which he explores the link between the world’s most significant political events and the music and artists that have served as a beacon for society.

The evening will conclude with a musical selection featuring Dubin, DJ and producer from the Salento-based duo Insintesi – who have been promoting low-frequency music for over twenty years – and Antonio Giannuzzi.

From 7.30 pm, guests can enjoy an aperitif with cocktails from Nuvole and savour a special ‘wild cuisine’ menu created by chefs Andrea Mazzola and Diletta Bagordo.

Apulian natural wines will also be available throughout the evening, curated by Assagi a sud est, which has been distributing quality food, wines and spirits in the Salento region for 10 years.

In the afternoon, from 4 pm to 9 pm, the Infopoint will be open, offering the chance to explore the Castello Volante through guided tours (info and bookings: 3519137972) and to view the exhibition “Five From One. Five Countries, Five Stories’ by the American photojournalist of Italian origin Lou Dematteis, curated by Claudio Domini and Paolo Pisanelli and designed by Francesco Maggiore. During Food Sound Castle, the “Visioni del Sud” exhibition programme will be open, featuring, amongst others, the exhibitions “La Candelora a Montevergine” by Alessandro Gattuso, “Queer è Ora” by Alessia Rollo, curated by Transparent, 73100 Gaya and Big Sur, and “RestartRestanze” by Maurizio Fiorino.
