Castello Volante

The castle for boys and girls

Educational provision for primary and lower secondary schools

Il Castello Volante, in collaboration with the Corigliano d’Otranto InfoPoint and the Municipal Library (located in the castle and run by Magma aps), invites you to discover its new educational programme for primary and lower secondary schools.

The castle, with its world of magical and adventurous stories, has the power to captivate boys and girls of all ages. Young people have a natural inclination for adventure (whether real or imaginary), and the castle will certainly be an effective way to stimulate their desire for discovery and enrich their learning through our interactive tours and workshops.

We offer a range of experiences, which can be booked individually or as a package depending on the school’s requirements.

PROPOSAL NO. 1: “Escape Castle” (Team-based escape room in the castle’s halls)

Following a brief introductory tour led by our qualified guide, the pupils will be divided into teams through a knighting ceremony and the presentation of a banner. Immersed in a historical or fantasy adventure inspired by the castle’s history, the teams – equipped with a map – will have to make their way from room to room, solving puzzles, quizzes or practical challenges. Only the team that has been most attentive to picking up clues in the guide’s words and observing the many hidden traces on the castle walls will manage to escape the castle and win the challenge.

PROPOSAL NO. 2: ‘The Tower of Books’ (Reading and creative workshop in the San Michele keep, home to the Kids’ Area of the Municipal Library)

Drawing inspiration from the bas-relief of St Michael slaying the dragon of ignorance thanks to the strength gained through reading, the library staff will guide the pupils on a journey through castle-themed books and picture books.
The choice of books and the creative workshop will be adapted on a case-by-case basis according to the children’s ages.

PROPOSAL NO. 3: “Pre-visit classroom lesson”

In consultation with teachers and in line with their teaching programme, our qualified guide (a medieval archaeologist) can prepare the pupils for the visit with an informal lesson at school or via video link.

There are many topics related to the castle’s history; here are just a few examples:
