Visitors arriving at the Castello Volante are welcomed by a well-stocked bookshop, where the stories and charm of the local area are captured within the pages of books, in the packaging that preserves local flavours, and in the design of original handcrafted items. The book section offers a glimpse into the best of local publishing (and beyond), with a particular focus on the history, geography, anthropology, rituals and traditions (including culinary traditions) of Puglia. One section is dedicated to Apulian fiction, its writers, and those who have set their stories in this part of the peninsula. Finally, there is a section for children, designed to satisfy their curiosity and thirst for stories of castles, princesses and princes, witches and wizards, legends and folk tales. The bookshop also serves as a showcase for Apulian creativity, featuring sights, flavours and objects that draw on the region’s cultural heritage, as well as a range of merchandise inspired by the ancient manor house of Corigliano d’Otranto. These creations come to life through the work of artists in residence at the castle, collaborations with local businesses and craftspeople, and co-creation workshops involving children and residents of the village.
