‘Bla Bla Femina’ is coming: theatre, words and images to challenge gender stereotypes
The “Bla Bla Femina” cultural festival, organised by the Coro a Coro APS association, kicks off on 18 June under the patronage of Corigliano d’Otranto Town Council and in collaboration with Castello Volante. The initiative, which blends comedy, reflection and art to give voice to a new narrative on gender roles and to celebrate cultural differences through a female perspective, stems from a desire to explore the power of words and their role in the construction – or deconstruction – of inequalities through theatre, art and culture.
The event will open at 8.30 pm with comedian Maura Bloom’s stand-up comedy show ‘Bambolotto’, a comic-satirical monologue that explores a parallel universe where gender roles are reversed. The protagonist offers an ironic take on a matriarchal society, where women hold the power and men are subject to traditionally feminine stereotypes. Through comic sketches, social commentary and musical interludes, Maura engages the audience in laughter that also stimulates critical reflection on gender roles.
This will be followed at 10.00 pm by the talk ‘Stai Zitta’, which will delve deeper into the themes of language and the status of women in contemporary society, drawing on the literary legacy of Michela Murgia, with Maura Bloom and journalist Giorgia Salicandro, accompanied by a themed aperitif and a selection of original cocktails inspired by the book’s chapter titles, which the audience can sample during the event, courtesy of Nuvole, the bar at Castello Volante.
The artistic backdrop for the entire evening will be the installations curated by Maurizio Buttazzo and the exhibition “Woman” by Emilia Ruggiero, an ongoing painting project that tells the stories of women whilst paying tribute to their life journeys. ‘Woman’ is an ambitious collaborative project launched in 2019, which has been enriched by a profound reflection on the centrality of women in the prehistoric iconography of the Great Mother, becoming a bridge between this anthropomorphic figure and our contemporary heroines. A heartfelt narrative in which to see oneself reflected, involving many individuals with diverse experiences and chosen paths – whether solitary or dynamic and collective.
The entire festival is curated and organised by the Coro a Coro association, which grew out of a project conceived by the musician and singer Rachele Andrioli with the aim of creating a women’s choir comprising women passionate about singing who would take on the challenge of learning traditional songs from all over the world. The association, which has been active for three years, promotes activities and initiatives focused on gender equality, multicultural exchange, environmental sustainability and the celebration of diversity through art, music and culture.
Tickets for the evening of 18 June are available in advance on the Diyticket website (www.diyticket.it) and at the box office at Castello Volante on the day of the performance.
