Castello e Borgo Volante

Breaking Down Distances

Registration is now open for the SEI Festival’s community theatre workshop

You have until Monday 16 June to register for “Frantumare le distanze”: from Monday 23 June to Thursday 3 July at the Castello Volante in Corigliano d’Otranto, the nineteenth edition of Coolclub’s SEI Festival, centred on the theme “Circles in the Water”, will host a free community theatre workshop led by the actress, author, educator and cultural organiser Alessandra De Luca.

Water, the liquid element that unites shores and transcends boundaries, will be the starting point for a theatrical journey that seeks to break down boundaries – both physical and mental – and to foster closeness and shared experience. Participants will be invited, through the playful and community-based practices of theatre, including guided improvisation techniques and work on voice and body, to explore texts and ideas inspired by the songs of Paolo Benvegnù. ‘Frantumare le distanze’ and ‘Cerchi nell’acqua’ are, in fact, a tribute to the verses of the singer-songwriter – a friend of the SEI festival and winner of the 2024 Tenco Prize – who passed away prematurely a few months ago. Every word, every image, will open up small inner compartments from which personal and collective memories, intimate and public stories, can emerge, eventually forming a sensitive and civic map capable of navigating the themes and pressing issues of the present.

The workshop, which is free and open to everyone (professionals and members of the public alike, even those with no theatre experience), will consist of seven sessions (23 June – from 5.00 pm to 7.00 pm, 24|25|26|27 June, 1–2 July – from 5.00 pm to 8.00 pm) and will conclude on Thursday 3 July with a dress rehearsal (from 5.00 pm to 7.00 pm) and a final performance open to the public at 7.30 pm (free admission). You can register via an online form at urly.it/319qnp.
