Gianluca De Rubertis was born in Lecce in 1976. In 2001, together with his sister Matilde, Riccardo Schirinzi and Giancarlo Belgiorno, he founded Studiodavoli, who won the 2002 Arezzo Wave Festival and, in 2003, signed to Recordkicks, with whom they released ‘Megalopolis’ (2004) and “Decibels for dummies” (2006), immediately establishing themselves as a unique band in Italy in terms of sound, style and influences. In 2006, De Rubertis moved to Milan and decided to collaborate with Alessandra Contini, with whom he founded the band Il Genio; their eponymous album was released in 2008. 2009 proved to be a year packed with live performances, during which media interest grew, confirming Il Genio as one of the breakthrough bands of recent years. Following the tour, the new album *Vivere negli anni ‘X* was recorded in February 2010. Meanwhile, Gianluca worked on his solo project, and so “Autoritratti con oggetti” was released in March 2012. On this album, De Rubertis reveals his most personal and singer-songwriter side to the public; contributors to the album include, amongst others, Dellera, Rodrigo D’Erasmo and Enrico Gabrielli; the critical reception is excellent and the album is well received. In 2013, he returned to writing new tracks for Il Genio’s third album, which was released in December under the title “Una voce poco fa”. De Rubertis continued to work on new songs and, together with Leo Pari, Dario Ciffo and Lino Gitto, toured a musical retrospective on Lucio Battisti, which proved a great success in many Italian clubs. In May 2015, he came into contact with the MarteLabel record label, and it is with them that he is set to release his second solo album: “L’universo Elegante”. In 2020, the singer-songwriter returned with his third solo album, which showcases a stylistic signature that combines refined and profound songwriting with pop ‘simplicity’. With “La violenza della luce” (Sony Music Italy), the artist reflects, as authentically as possible, on the maieutic power of darkness, and on how, in the “darkness” of a difficult existential situation, one can achieve an unexpected realisation. The album features contributions from Lele Battista, Matilde Davoli, Leziero Rescigno, Barbara Cavaleri and other musicians.
