Giorgio Tuma & We Love Gilberto live

"Summer is coming to an end" at the Castello Volante in Corigliano d'Otranto

Until 30 September, the terraces of Nuvole, the cocktail bar and bistro at Castello Volante in Corigliano d’Otranto, are hosting “L’estate sta finendo”.

On Sunday 27 August (9.00 pm – free entry), the series will feature Giorgio Tuma & We Love Gilberto, a very young band, formed just a couple of years ago, with one great aim: to bring back to life that wonderful world found precisely in the black-and-white and pastel-coloured memories of Rai programmes from the 1960s and 1970s, where one was often lucky enough to see Mina singing a Jobim song in prime time, and Ornella Vanoni duetting with Toquinho and Vinicius de Moraes.

And it is precisely from here that the musical exploration of the group – comprising Clarissa Rustico (vocals), Alberto Zacà (guitar), Pierpaolo Polo (bass), Filippo Galbiati (Rhodes) and Giorgio Tuma (drums): delving deep into the historical musical memory of the great ‘Italian-Brazilian songbook’ to bring songs of infinite beauty back into the spotlight, songs originally sung by true icons such as Caterina Valente, Astrud Gilberto (the band’s name is a heartfelt tribute to her and her husband João Gilberto) and, indeed, Mina and Ornella Vanoni.

A repertoire rich in bossa nova, alternating original Brazilian classics with Italian-style reinterpretations of pieces by Marcos Valle, Edu Lobo, Chico Buarque and Jobim – all so popular during those magical, once-in-a-lifetime years. The set list also includes the four original tracks from the eponymous EP released on Elefant Records (an independent Spanish record label which, over the years, has released various projects by Giorgio Tuma), characterised by rich arrangements, exotic harmonies and a passion for Brazil, samba and bossa nova.

Organised by Coolclub and Sei Festival, the event forms part of the Puglia Sounds Circuito dei Luoghi 2023 programme run by the Puglia Region (a project funded under the Puglia POR ERDF-ESF 2014/2020 – Axis VI Action 6.8 – “PP-Tpp Puglia Programme. Rediscover the Wonder 2023”).
