This year, the Castello Volante is hosting ‘Ddomada Grika (Grika Week)’, a summer school focusing on the Greek language and culture of the Salento region, with activities taking place in August.
The idea originated with a group of young people who, following different paths and at different times, developed a desire to learn and speak Griko, a Greek dialect that still survives in the province of Lecce.
The event will consist of morning Grika language courses, divided into three levels: a class for very young learners, a class for beginners and a class for speakers. In the afternoons, there will be talks, walks, workshops and musical events, aimed at gaining a better understanding of the traditions and cultural aspects of the area where the language is spoken.
