On Wednesday 7 July (8.00 pm – free admission), the main terrace of the Castello Volante in Corigliano d’Otranto (LE) will host the launch of *Tagli di carta*, Jacopo Torre’s debut poetry collection, recently published by Edizioni Ergot. The young author from Lecce will be in conversation with Cristiana Francioso.
The poems in the collection explore a wide variety of themes. Love in all its forms – love that is reciprocated, sweet and redemptive; love that is lost, sustained by memory and the evocative power of elements that bring that memory back to life; painful and passionate love, which, like a war, consumes the body and the mind; abandonment and distance; the fruitless search for peace of mind. The poetry in *Tagli di Carta* is one of doubt and uncertainty, incapable of providing answers or offering definitive solutions to the small sufferings of life which – much like the cuts on one’s fingers caused by paper – though invisible, represent a constant, nagging presence. “A present made up of waiting and memory, a bittersweet time in which personal experience transmigrates and becomes something else, transforming into an existential tension that leads us to walk, to cross over, to ask ourselves questions and seek answers,” writes Osvaldo Piliego in the introduction.
Jacopo Torre was born in Lecce in 1996. An avid reader all his life, he began studying Modern Literature, whilst also working intensively as a radio presenter for the local station Radio WAU and as a cultural organiser with CoolClub.
