On Thursday 13 June (8.00 pm – free entry), the 18th edition of CoolClub’s SEI Festival – with the slogan ‘Lose yourself to find yourself’ – will present a travelling production of ‘Lasciami qui’ across the halls and terraces of the Castello Volante in Corigliano d’Otranto.
Since 3 June, in fact, the free community theatre workshop led by actress, author, educator and cultural organiser Alessandra De Luca has involved a group of people aged between 12 and 70. The project drew on the lyrics of songs by CCCP – Fedeli alla linea (guests at the SEI in Melpignano on Friday 9 August) and CSI, which, thanks to their significance and poetic depth, lend themselves easily both to theatrical adaptation and to evoking a wealth of memories, memories and emotional connections in anyone who engages with them, even in those who, being unfamiliar with them, are listening to or reading them for the first time.
Through the playful and communal practices of theatre, participants were invited to rework the lyrics, and each of these words was like a drawer which, when opened, gave rise to small personal stories or grand public narratives, ultimately constructing an emotional and sensory map, as well as a historical and cultural one. A map of a group as diverse as it is vibrant, comprising Nicolas Amato, Lucio Ennio Caprioli, Claudio De Marco, Luigi Dell’Anna, Gionatan D’Ignazio, Maryna Kotyukha, Giada Filoni, Raffaella Fiorini, Leo Mercuri, Luciana Palermo, Luigia Palma, Stefania Pati, Simona Raciti, Chiara Ritelli, Giulio Romano and Rio Sokhna.
‘The main question I asked myself at the start of this project was: how can I get such different generations to engage in dialogue? To my great surprise, I didn’t need to make any effort at all, because the dialogue arose spontaneously and happened naturally, perhaps precisely thanks to theatre’s ability to play with roles,’ emphasises the curator. ‘And perhaps this is precisely the most interesting thing to witness during the final performance. In fact, what will be staged is a dialogue between generations that are only apparently distant, demonstrating how they live and relate to one another from different perspectives – dictated by different ages – yet through emotions that are universal and shape us throughout our lives: love, struggle, memories, ideals, passions’.
