Castello Volante

Little Carnival

The Big Children’s Carnival at Castello Volante

A new event for families at the Castello Volante in Corigliano d’Otranto.

Two days of workshops, theatre and festivities to satisfy children’s desire to dress up and have fun – and why not? – their parents’ too.

Following the success of the Halloween party, Castello Volante is doubling the programme thanks to its fruitful collaboration with the staff of the Municipal Library (Magma aps).

PROGRAMME

  • Sunday 19 February at 10.00 am

‘I Know You, Mascherina’

Kamishibai storytelling and art workshop to celebrate Carnival

Recommended for ages 5 and over

Ticket €10.00

Starting with an animated Kamishibai reading, inspired by the beautiful book “I Know You, Mascherina” by F. Rossi (published by Corsare), we will explore the world and traditions of the Commedia dell’Arte through storytelling and a presentation of the most iconic masks.

Kamishibai will allow us to enter an intimate and interactive theatrical world and to create a welcoming space for discussion and sharing.

Afterwards, using various types of coloured paper and card and employing the collage technique, we will work on creating a leporello – an accordion-folded booklet – to depict the characters, settings and themes that emerged during the storytelling.

The workshop is organised by StoryLab

‘Books in Masks’

Readings and workshop at the library

Recommended age: 5 years and over

Ticket €5.00

Carnival is a source of madness and fun. From the traditional reversal of roles between nobles and commoners, permitted only during this festival, to the more contemporary tradition of dressing up as superheroes or fairy-tale characters (for adults and children alike), at this time of year everyone can become who they’ve always dreamed of being.

So let’s take inspiration from the pages of books to tell the story of this festival, and then try our hand at making masks and costumes in keeping with the library’s setting: the castle.

Will it be a princess, a prince, a soldier, a horse, a dragon or a masked demon?

Workshop organised by Magma aps

  • Monday 20 February from 5.00 pm

‘Pulcinella and the Haunted Castle’

Puppet show by the Teste di Legno theatre company

Recommended age 8–99, duration 50 minutes

A baron dies, leaving his nephew a castle, a will that cannot be found, and a castle haunted by ghosts and ruled by
a rather strange butler. A show suitable for everyone, where, in a magical setting, Fagiolino, with Pulcinella’s help, will also find love.

Curated by Attilio Monti and Biagio Tabella

… followed by

'Carnevalino Party'

Music, group dancing, the classic piñata and a great desire to get together and give free rein to imagination and fun.

The large masks adorning the façade and courtyard of the Castle will welcome and greet all those in fancy dress, whether they’re classic characters like Pulcinella, trendy ones like Wednesday Addams, or the ‘Castello’ themed costumes we suggest.

The best ‘Flying Castle’-themed costume will, in fact, be one of the categories awarded prizes during the evening. The other categories will be group (at least 3 people), family, children’s costume, most original and most eco-friendly costume.

Cost (including the show and party)

€10.00 per child, including one adult (€5.00 for each additional adult)
