Mundial and Tario live + a DJ set by Quelli dell'ape

The final evening of “L’estate sta finendo” at the Castello Volante in Corigliano d’Otranto

On Saturday 30 September (9.00 pmfree entry) in the atrium of the Castello Volante in Corigliano d’Otranto, with live performances by the Mundial trio and singer-songwriter Tario, the following event comes to a close “L’estate sta finendo”, a series promoted by Coolclub and Sei Festival as part of the Puglia Sounds Circuito dei Luoghi 2023 programme organised by the Puglia Region.

Following the opening set by Tario – a singer-songwriter project by Salento-born Mario Turco, who will perform a selection of tracks where a touch of melancholy blends with warm, inviting sounds, enhanced by electronic elements – the stage will then welcome the unmistakable sound of Mundial.

The project stems from an idea by singer-songwriter Carmine Tundo, guitarist Roberto Mangialardo and drummer Alberto Manco – three musicians from Salento who have long been active on the Italian independent music scene and collaborate on various projects, including La Municipàl and Diego Rivera.

Two years on from their debut album “Scercule”, “Culacchi” was released in June, again on the independent label Discographia Clandestina. This project stems from the desire to explore a sonic journey that stretches from the roots of Apulian music to the new frontiers of modern electronic music, capable of immediately arousing curiosity and garnering widespread acclaim thanks to a relentless and explosive live programme.

Mundial is a sound and visual laboratory, a bridge between the past and the future, which draws on the stories and nursery rhymes recited by our grandparents and places them within an experimental context, based on a sound created from samples of the Apulian landscape, edited and transformed into rhythmic patterns.

“Culacchi” is an ancient Salento dialect term referring to the little stories that were passed down in times gone by from father to son, from adult to child. These stories represented the only form of entertainment before the arrival of television and modernity.

“In this work, we have unearthed some of these short stories following extensive research carried out amongst the elderly people in our local area; recorded them and incorporated them into a modern soundscape, based on the sampling of sounds from nature and tradition, blended with modern electronics, percussion instruments and drum machines”, explain the three musicians.

The evening will conclude with a DJ set by Quelli dell’ape. Friendly, eclectic and with plenty of music to offer, 00reactivo and Stefano Marra are a DJ duo who came to prominence through the ‘Ape in Funky Garage’ project, which promotes the local area through events. Their aim is always to adapt to different situations: from laid-back funky tunes at sunset to the super-danceable, straight-up beats of old and modern house music and late-night electronic tracks.

They don’t have a favourite genre, but they do have a selection of illegal records!

From 7 pm (info and table bookings: 3343429268⁣ – nuvole@ilcastellovolante.it), you can also take a seat on the terraces of Nuvole, the cocktail bar and bistro at Castello Volante, to enjoy an aperitif and sample the menu created by chefs Andrea Mazzola and Diletta Bagordo.

During the evening, you can visit the ‘Visioni del Sud’ exhibition, featuring, amongst others, the exhibitions ‘La Candelora a Montevergine’ by Alessandro Gattuso, ‘Queer è Ora’ by Alessia Rollo, curated by Transparent, 73100 Gaya and Big Sur, and ‘RestartRestanze’ by Maurizio Fiorino.
