On Tuesday 27 August, in the atrium of the Castello Volante in Corigliano d’Otranto, there will be a double bill featuring literature, film and music.
The evening will kick off at 8.30 pm, as part of the Salento Book Festival, with Furio Andreotti, screenwriter of Paola Cortellesi’s film “C’è ancora domani”, winner of the David di Donatello award for best original screenplay.
Following this, Coolclub – in collaboration with SEI Festival and thanks to the support of NuovoImaie – as part of the programme for Borgo Volante, a project by the Municipality of Corigliano d’Otranto supported by the Ministry of Culture’s Fund for Development and Cohesion – will host a performance by Brancaleone Project. This unique instrumental trio, comprising Giuseppe Spedicato (bass tuba), Rocco Nigro (accordion) and Giorgio Distante (trumpet), joined for this special leg of the tour – supported by the Puglia Sounds Tour Italia programme – by percussionist Vito de Lorenzi, will perform tracks from *Gradisca*, a recording project produced by Ipe Ipe with the support of NuovoImaie. A tribute to the great masters of Italian cinema, the CD creates a poetic, visionary and at times dreamlike soundscape inspired by the films of Federico Fellini and the film music of Nino Rota. The compositions, all original, are inspired by imaginary film scenes, and the trio’s name is an explicit reference to the daring ‘Brancaleone Army’ from Monicelli’s film, in which the figure of the knights-errant is transformed within the musicians’ sonic journey. Melodies that seem to emerge from an old gramophone, the world of brass bands, fairy-tale atmospheres, the poetry of the accordion. All this comes together in Gradisca, a project capable of blending ‘high and low’ and of moving and inspiring audiences through the beauty of evocative music.
From 6.30 pm on the terraces of Nuvole, the castle’s cocktail bar and bistro, guests can enjoy an aperitif and sample the revamped menu created by chef Diletta Bagordo, whilst sipping a drink from the list carefully curated by Michele Contini.
