On Saturday 29 April, the Castello Volante in Corigliano d’Otranto opens its doors to young people for “SEEING THE INVISIBLE”
A festival of film, music, visual arts and performance conceived and organised by pupils from five secondary schools in Salento to explore, through images, sounds and words, the visible and invisible worlds of the contemporary era.
‘Seeing the Invisible’ is a multidisciplinary event that originated in schools but aims to move beyond the school setting to become a fully-fledged part of the Castello Volante’s cultural programme.
Over recent months, the students have deepened their knowledge of films and filmmakers in contemporary cinema, engaged with artists and their artistic visions, and taken part in masterclasses and workshops on audiovisual practices, as well as on the organisation and communication of a festival.
The result of this work is the audiovisual programme ‘Seeing the Invisible’, curated, organised and promoted by Big Sur together with the pupils, cultural partners and educational institutions that took part in the programme as part of the ‘Cinema and Images for Schools’ project promoted by the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Education and Merit.
The festival will showcase the students’ visual imagination, the dreams, passions and aspirations that drive them, and is aimed at a wide audience of film and visual arts enthusiasts, curious members of the public, students and teachers from the participating schools, the educational community and the wider local community, who will be able to take part in screenings, performances, installations, exhibitions and musical events during a night of images, sounds and visions within the grounds of one of Puglia’s most beautiful castles.

👁️🗨️ EXHIBITIONS AND INSTALLATIONS
In the Noble Halls of the Castello Volante, visitors can explore the exhibition ‘Quello che non si vede’ (What Cannot Be Seen), curated by Big Sur and partner associations. Photographic exhibitions and audiovisual installations depict the faces, landscapes and imaginations of the students who co-created the works and are the protagonists of the project. An audio track to be listened to through headphones completes the experience, thanks to a soundscape composed of previously unreleased music and the sound of their voices.
