To mark International Women’s Day on 8 March, the Corigliano d’Otranto Infopoint, in collaboration with Castello Volante, is organising a special guided tour dedicated to women in local history and art.
You only pay the standard admission fee (€7), valid for one year with the ‘Chiave del Castello’ pass.
The guided tour is, exceptionally, free for all women.
The tour will be a journey through centuries of female memory and representation:
from the countesses and feudal ladies who governed and administered territories,
to the ‘virtues’ carved in Baroque stone,
from the mythological and symbolic figures adorning halls and balconies,
right through to the female factory workers and labourers of the 20th century and today’s cultural workers, custodians and interpreters of our heritage.
A collective narrative that weaves together power, labour, art and symbolism, to restore a voice and presence to the women who have inhabited – and continue to inhabit – this place.
