Castello Volante

The Carnival

The legendary Castello Volante carnival party is back

On Saturday 18 February from 10 pm, The Carnival Party returns to the Castello Volante in Corigliano d’Otranto.
A celebration of imagination and transformation that winds its way through the halls, towers, terraces and parade ground of one of Puglia’s most beautiful castles. A carnival that gives free rein to creativity and freedom of expression, allowing participants to perform acts of magic and become one with the spectacle. A Dionysian rite, a ritual celebration that will draw everyone into the whirling rhythm of a grand dance. Through its festivals, in fact, Castello Volante aims to bring collective rituals to life, experimenting with new forms of communication and sharing creative experiences that take shape through music, the visual arts and the performing arts.

In the Sala Cavallerizza, the DJ booth will feature Gabriele Poso, a percussion virtuoso, multi-instrumentalist and conductor of the Yoruba Soul Orchestra for the producer Osunlade (Grammy Award winner), Giovanni Antonaci, a DJ whose set ranges from melodic techno to techno and the freshest, liveliest sounds of Afro house music, and Tatien, blending house, African and electronic sounds. The Sala Medievale will host The Covellas, a chaotic and colourful mix of Italian and international music, disco, dance and hip hop, and the debut of The Michelis project, conceived by Miss Mykela and Michele Manca, which presents ‘dance-oriented electronic music’ (electro, dubstep, grime, breakbeat, house, techno, jungle and drum’n’bass). The halls of Nuvole, the Castello Volante’s workshop of taste and spirits, will host selections by Daniele Marzano – producer, sound artist, DJ and founder of the Music Platform project – and Sorge, a music enthusiast since the dawn of the underground scene and an admirer of the most diverse musical genres.

In the Sale Nobili, there will be a performance by cellist and composer Luca Basile, whose repertoire ranges from pop to rock, from electronic to classical music, alongside a fluorescent installation curated by face painter, decorator and craftsperson Imma Vitello and visual artist Efrem Barrotta. In the Spazio Nuvole, meanwhile, a full-scale photo shoot set will be created by photographer Antonio Leo, who will take artistic portraits of the most original masks.

Before the party (from 7 pm, with a repeat performance on Sunday at 10 am), there will be a special guided tour ‘in period costume’ to immerse visitors in the atmosphere of the past and the history of the Castle.

Carnival Party admission: €12 in advance via Dice (bit.ly/CarnivalParty23) and €15 at the box office.

Guided tour admission: €10 (€20 including the Carnival Party, or €15 for ‘costumed’ visitors).
