The video, directed by Davide Faggiano and produced as part of the Puglia Sounds Producers 2020/2021 programme run by the Puglia Region (FSC 2014/2020 ‘Patto per la Puglia – Investiamo nel vostro futuro’), chronicles the week of rehearsals, moments of camaraderie and the two live performances by the artists who, coordinated by the Salento-based duo Underspreche, took part in the project hosted from 26 to 31 July 2021 at the Castello Volante in Corigliano d’Otranto. Folk vocals, jazz percussion and synthesisers provided the soundtrack – for the first time in Italy – to the early cinema of the Lumière brothers and Thomas Alva Edison. Following the screening, on the terrace of ‘Nuvole – Food, Stories, Cultures, a workshop of flavours and spirits’ at the Castello Volante, the evening – part of the ‘SEI FESTIVAL – All Year Round’ project, promoted by Coolclub with the support of the Puglia Region – ‘Custodiamo la cultura in Puglia 2021’ – FUS beneficiaries, will conclude with musical selections by Underspreche and Luca Bandirali.
Following the “ReSound” experience in 2019, Coolclub’s SEI Festival, now in its fifteenth edition, hosted a new artist-in-residence programme under the artistic direction of Underspreche. The duo, comprising Marika Della Torre and Simone Campanile, worked with musician and producer Populous, drummer Valentina Magaletti, the musician, DJ and composer Donato Epiro, the producers Marco Erroi and Kakofonico, the singer Stefano Luigi Mangia, DJs Max Nocco and Francesco Farfa, and singer, percussionist and songwriter Rachele Andrioli, with the participation of Coro a Coro, to prepare two collective and previously unseen performances staged on Friday 30 and Saturday 31 July 2021. FeelM has, in fact, presented the first-ever live musical accompaniment in Italy to a rich selection of short films by Thomas Alva Edison and the Lumière brothers, who, between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, gave birth to the seventh art. ‘FeelM has been a creative journey that we have had the pleasure of sharing with unique artists from different musical worlds – worlds that are seemingly distant from one another but which also represent our vision of a modern “club”: one that is possible, present and future,’ emphasise the artistic directors. “Creating new combinations and stepping outside one’s comfort zone was one of the objectives of this week-long residency, at the end of which we presented to the public each artist’s personal interpretations, comprising previously unreleased music and ensemble performances created at the Castello Volante.” Finally, during the residency, the Feelm artists took part in a number of ‘itinerant’ events: the opening of the exhibitions at the InTrance photography and contemporary art festival in Galatina, GiroFeelm at the Cantine Garofano in Copertino, and other social activities at the Masseria Urban “La Restuccia”.
