On Saturday 3 September at 8.30 pm, the terrace of “Nuvole – Food, Stories, Cultures’, the taste and spirits workshop at Castello Volante in Corigliano d’Otranto, will host the ‘Monologhi da Bar’ featuring actor, author, poet and director Giuseppe Semeraro and musician and singer-songwriter Leone Marco Bartolo.
“Over the past few years, we’ve taken a great many poetry readings based on my poetry books on tour. Often having to engage with very diverse audiences, we felt the need to create more theatrical moments through longer monologues and texts capable of lightening and tempering the pathos of poetry,” says Giuseppe Semeraro.
“Gradually, these monologues have grown and become proper repertoire pieces, interspersed with more lyrical pieces and songs written by Leone. Unlike a poetry reading, the stories and monologues are always brought to life by the voice of a character who is not necessarily me.” The characters are subtly characterised on stage, and their consciousness, worldview and emotions are always evoked. Among the titles are ‘The Ballad of the Unemployed Poet’, ‘I Love You’, ‘Monologue on Love and Parking’, ‘A Few Words’, and ‘An Olive Tree in Milan’: powerful stories, desperate stories, tragicomic stories and poetic stories.
The texts are all by Giuseppe Semeraro and are interspersed with songs performed live by Leone Marco Bartolo, who consistently blends tradition with singer-songwriter style.
