On Saturday 18 November (10.00 pm), the Castello Volante in Corigliano d’Otranto is hosting an evening to celebrate the new record label, Dischi Spranti.
Two of the project’s driving forces will take turns at the decks: vinyl connoisseur, collector, selector and storyteller Max Nocco, and DJ and producer Marco Erroi. Their sets will be enhanced by live digital painting from artist Massimo Pasca, the graphic designer behind the visionary cover art for the first vinyl release.
‘Coming up with a name for a record label is always a bloody nightmare. It wasn’t for Dischi Spranti, though – a choice we agreed on straight away, on the spot, after a quick exchange of messages. No doubts at all, for those of us who live in the ‘spranto’ moment – between a bassline and the drums, an acid synth spinning ceaselessly, and the dust settling on thousands of vinyl records,” say Max Nocco and Marco Erroi. “Yes, vinyl records… Of every kind, ‘spranti’, sincere and fast, like a beat that pounds in your head, like a free dance that transports you elsewhere. Like the land and the times we live in. That’s why Dischi Spranti: because it’s necessary.”
‘Spranto’ is a term from the Salento dialect, untranslatable like so many others. More than just an adjective (raw, immediately accessible, perhaps unfiltered), it almost introduces a philosophy and certainly the approach adopted in selecting the tracks for this project. A philosophy that evokes a free-flowing dance that transports you elsewhere.
The first release is a selection of eight artists (Franza, Francesco Fisotti, Done, Queemose, Marcello Napoletano, Populous, Kamaji, Michele Minnini), eight styles, eight previously unreleased tracks. The idea is that of a classic vinyl listening experience: once one side is finished, you get up from your armchair to continue the journey, perhaps even turning up the volume.
