Description

On Friday mornings, Corigliano d’Otranto comes to life with the vibrant energy of its weekly market. It’s the perfect day to blend history and everyday life, past and present, in an experience that speaks to the heart… and the palate.

It begins in the rooms of the Palumbo Exhibition, inside Castello De’ Monti: a fascinating photographic journey into the rural world of the early 20th century. In those sun-weathered faces, in the repetitive gestures of sowing and harvesting, lies the authentic memory of a region that lived in harmony with the land.

From there, you step out into the open air, amongst the streets of the old town, and let yourself be guided through the market stalls. But this is no mere stroll: it is a carefully curated journey through the region’s authentic, seasonal produce, grown with respect and passed down with passion.

Together with your guide, you’ll learn to tell the difference between local and imported fruit, and to recognise the farmers who preserve heirloom seeds and the younger generation who have chosen organic farming as an act of love for their land.

Between one story and the next, there’ll also be time for a few tasty stops at local bakeries and patisseries: bread made from heirloom grains, almond cakes – simple flavours steeped in memories.

A tour filled with true stories, faces and scents. An invitation to discover the most authentic Salento – the one you won’t find in guidebooks… but which you’ll encounter as you walk.

Every Friday at 9.00 am.
