Description

Starting from the evocative museum rooms of Castello De’ Monti, this tour will take you into the heart of Corigliano d’Otranto, one of the most authentic and charming villages in Grecìa Salentina, a linguistic enclave of Greek origin in the centre of Salento.

As you stroll through the narrow streets of the historic centre, the tour becomes a journey down memory lane:
from its Byzantine roots to the Greek Orthodox monasteries, from courtyard houses bearing ancient Greek inscriptions to the chance of meeting people on the street who still speak this ancient language today; every stop reveals fragments of a rich and vibrant culture.

Beneath the canopy of the centuries-old Vallonea oak, a symbol of resilience and wisdom, one can still sense the spirit of a people proud of their dual identity: ‘gente cu doi lingue’, people with two languages, who proudly preserve their Grika identity.

An experience that combines history, language, spirituality and nature, allowing you to discover a lesser-known side of Salento that is nonetheless extraordinarily rich in meaning.
