The Palumbo Archive

photographs by Giuseppe Palumbo

The Castle houses a permanent photographic exhibition, featuring a selection of images drawn from the valuable archive of the photographer Giuseppe Palumbo, held at the Castromediano Museum in Lecce, an extraordinary collection comprising 1,740 plates, produced between 1907 and 1959, depicting the Salento of yesteryear, its people, trades and places.

Thanks to the ‘Visioni del Sud’ project, born out of a collaboration between Big Sur and the Sigismondo Castromediano Museum, the archive has been brought back to light, thereby reviving a past that is a constant source of inspiration, as well as a stimulus for reflection on the present and the future.
