Maurizio Buttazzo

Give us this day our daily plastic

Maurizio Buttazzo’s light installations have been a feature of the Festa di Cinema del Reale for years, helping to define its visual identity and the very way in which the spaces of the Castle are experienced. Made from plastic and reused materials, the installations alter the perception of the place, transforming terraces, courtyards and pathways into spaces for passing through, meeting and observing. Light is not used merely as a decorative element; it traces paths, opens up thresholds, guides the gaze and fosters new ways of engaging with the architecture and landscape. Spaces of passage thus become places for pause and discovery, whilst lines and geometric patterns of light reveal unexpected aspects of the surroundings. In this ongoing dialogue between light, architecture and social spaces, the castle’s terrace becomes a landscape in flux, where Buttazzo’s installations temporarily redefine its boundaries, inviting visitors to construct their own experience of the space through movement and the gaze.
