A self-guided tour is ideal for those who enjoy discovering, at their own pace and in their own way, the history and transformations of the monument, reading the signs of the times and letting the atmosphere of the place guide them. So losing yourself amongst the countless, majestic halls of the fortress could be both a pleasure and a deliberate choice. Conversely, it will be just as much of a pleasure to let yourself be guided by the map and descriptions contained in the carefully compiled complimentary mini-guide, designed for the castle’s residents. In both cases, the visiting experience will always be different, as there will be a variety of activities you’re likely to come across: the ‘Cinema del Reale’ exhibitions, workshops and artist residencies, a behind-the-scenes look at major music festivals, and a selection of the region’s finest products in the gift shop.
