An intense and captivating journey into the very heart of Salento, amongst ancient crafts, archaic rituals and folk traditions.
Inside Castello De’ Monti, the tour winds its way through spaces steeped in history: the tobacco workshop, where tobacco leaves were once processed, and the remains of an ancient underground oil mill, a silent witness to the work of the oil millers.
The exhibition programme is further enriched by the exhibition “Journey into the Lands of Remorse”, which, through Franco Pinna’s extraordinary photographs and Ernesto De Martino’s studies, explores the world of the tarantate, women caught between suffering, ritual and music, who are at the heart of one of the most fascinating phenomena in Mediterranean culture.
Through images, sounds and stories, the castle becomes a place where the most authentic roots of Salento resurface: an archaic, living world that still speaks through the memory of its traditions, its women and its men.
