sculpture by Renzo Buttazzo

“Stone is culture; stone is nature. It bears within itself the traces of the world’s history.

Stone is more than a living being; this stone is nature itself; it is God.

Through my works, I wish to make the invisible visible; I wish to shape an abstract idea into a pure form, working it whilst simultaneously placing it at the centre of the universe.

In my forms, I wish to represent the life force, the immeasurable, mystery and rationality, the finite and the infinite.

To be reborn through the form that emerges from the stone, to be purified by experiencing its inner uniqueness: its soul is

nature; nature is its form”.

Renzo Buttazzo

By penetrating and reshaping matter, Renzo Buttazzo offers a vision of a new imaginary space, a new world, shaped by humankind and its perceptions.

By shaping the past and the future, he finds, in the balance of simple forms, the representation of new universes, denied to academic tradition.

By infusing new vital force, he has become a leading figure in the experimentation with stone materials.

Composite works, multiples, clones, modules: an intimate representation of primary elements.

Nature and its transformations remain the dividing line, within which the sculptor ranges to the very limits of perceptual space, evoking sensations of precariousness and the improbability of forms.

From matter he extracts the void – in its very being – a perceptual presence.

Light enters softly, breathing within the movement of solids and voids, to consolidate itself in the balance of form.

He listens to it, observes it, and is utterly consumed by it to the very limits of its solidity, expressing its essence.

By capturing its echoes and transformations, he leads us into future worlds.
