Inspired by an encounter with ManuManu Riforesta!, the Katábasis project is an evolving visual exploration, a symbolic journey through the sites of an unimaginable ecological catastrophe. It is a slow descent into the depths of reality, leading us to find ourselves amidst the ruins of our landscape, faced with the skeletal remains of what now belongs to the world of memory. There is a word that captures all this: ‘catabasis’, meaning a descent into the underworld. An inner experience that opens up the possibility of a reverse movement, ‘anabasis’, an upward ascent. To plunge into the tomb of disaster and then rise again. Snapshots of an unstoppable hell that restore to humanity the power to act, seeking, in the scorched earth, a dialogue with the fertile soul, to reawaken the desire for change, for rebirth.
Basilio Puglia
A photographer and digital artist originally from Puglia, he currently lives and works in France in the fields of film, photographic production and advertising. At the same time, he develops his anti-speciesist philosophy by dedicating himself to non-profit initiatives for the defence of the rights of all living beings. His collaborations include: Amnesty International, Greenpeace, Kenda Onlus, the National League for the Defence of Dogs, L214, LIA Creatives for Animal Welfare, and ManuManu Riforesta!
