Read the patient information leaflet carefully

by Giorgio Di Palma

The visionary works of the ‘artists’ at the Casa per la Vita Artemide in Racale

The exhibition *Read the Package Leaflet Carefully* stems from a collaboration between the Grottaglie-based ceramicist Giorgio Di Palma, the Salento-based sociologist and writer Walter Spennato, and the residents of the Casa per la Vita Artemide in Racale, a residential social and healthcare facility that accommodates people with psychosocial issues and stabilised psychiatric patients who have been discharged from the psychiatric rehabilitation system. The Castello Volante will host a collection of ceramic works and photographs created by the artists in collaboration with the residents of the facility. The exhibition aims to share experiences of creative exchange between the artists and the residents of the Casa per la Vita, with a view to generating ‘emotions’ and providing, alongside traditional pharmacology, a form of ‘emotional therapy’ without side effects.

Giorgio Di Palma
He was born in Grottaglie (Taranto) in 1981. His ceramics are life-size reproductions of everyday objects, devoid of functionality but rich in aesthetic and conceptual meaning. They represent a protest against the unbridled consumerism of contemporary society, where what is considered necessary today is destined to become superfluous tomorrow. In 2017, the ICMEA (International Ceramic Magazine Editors’ Association) recognised him as one of the world’s best emerging ceramic artists. His works are exhibited in numerous museums and public and private collections across Italy, Europe, Asia and America.
