(…) Might moving quietly, gliding along the edge of our vision as if along a wall, perhaps allow us to observe these intimate, multifaceted rooms without being touched, penetrated or dissected ourselves, as we cast our eyes upon what is happening there? It would seem not. Santa’s paper-based combinations of eyes, limbs and alphabets observe us, brush against us, ask something of us, using us as a medium for their discourse—which began who knows when—transforming the vision into a theatrical landscape of impulses, fears and atavistic desires. (…) In the battle of the fragments, which, like a jolt, seize the space between themselves and us, the days of a timeless calendar seem to pass in a tender, melancholic count, in which yearning silhouettes hold onto petals of patience, scattered tree-like vertebrae, held in place for just a breath, along the line of a silhouette, before a mere nothingness can carry them away.

Santa Scioscio was born in Minervino Murge (Bt) on 18 September 1976; she lives and works in Lecce. Since 2010, she has been a lecturer in the history of costume, fashion design and style at the Calcagnile Academy in Lecce. She has exhibited her works at “Pe(n)sa differente – Festival of Creative Expression and Authentic Beauty”, the “I Teatri della Cupa” festival and the Festa del Cinema del Reale. Active in the field of fibre art, she has created installations and artist’s books dedicated to the writer Rina Durante, the work of Hetty Hillesum and the singer-songwriter Franco Battiato. In 2018, she published the book “Mi Abito, Ci Abito – Lo spazio del sé, lo spazio per sé” with Spagine Editions.
